I am extremely knowledgeable in educational design theories and applications, including Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) design strategies. I have developed Web-Based Training (WBT) and Computer-Based Training (CBT) for the Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard (USCG), Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), and commercial customers such as AT&T and K12.com and ed2go.com. I have experience teaching courses in Construction Education and Engineering, and I am a Certified Master Trainer and Primary Administrator for the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Additionally, I spent some time as an Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) and Learning Management System (LMS) Specialist. Education M.Ed., Educational Leadership/Instructional Design Technology, University of West Florida, 2007 B.A., Interdisciplinary Humanities/Communications, University of West Florida, 2005 A.A., General Studies, Pensacola State College, 1996 Certifications Florida Educator Certification, Humanities (Grades K – 12), 2006 Professional Certification in Applied Ethics, University of West Florida, 2005 Primary Administrator, NCCER, 2005 Master Trainer of Trainers, NCCER, 2005 Publications Simplified Instructional Design Practices (2013) Analyzing Learning Objectives and Estimating Time and Cost to Develop Instruction (2013) Career Path I have been in the business of education for more than 10 years. Before serving in the education career field, I was a structural steel drafter (aka "Steel Detailer"). As a steel detailer, I routinely applied math (geometry), computer (AutoCAD), and problem-solving skills. ISD: Cengage Learning | ed2go (02/2014 – 04-2015) Contact: For references and verification of employment, please call The Work Number at 1-800-996-7566 and use Employee Code 24201 and Employer Code 13127. The Work Number is available Monday through Friday every work week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM Eastern time. Accomplishments: As the first and only ISD to work for Cengage Learning's ed2go, I was able to fully apply the ADDIE Model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and then Evaluate). I performed and reported the results of several formal and informal analyses. During the most recent Instructor-Led Courses (ILCs) and Certified Training Programs (CTPs) quality analyses I conducted, I focused on evaluating learning objectives and alignment, application of andragogy, designed interaction and engagement, and integration of 21st century workforce skills. Similarly, I created a template for the purpose of calculating student hours of engagement in accordance with the Carnegie Standard and the guidelines published by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). I designed a new model for ed2go's CTPs. This model applies best e-learning practices, clarifies learning outcomes, teaches adult and nontraditional learners, integrates workforce skills, and supports community connections. I developed many templates and tools, such as a comprehensive CTP Development Workbook that guides management, design, and development team members (especially SMEs and their Editors) through the entire process of efficiently and effectively creating an instructionally design program. I also developed storyboards, QA rubrics, grading rubrics, project management and tracking spreadsheets, process and certification maps, curriculum blueprints, step-by-step guides, course-level assignments, and comparable items. I spent a lot of time on the job consulting and training about ISD strategies, principles, theories, models, and processes. As part of my overall goal, I applied the ADDIE Model and to make a superior model, the related tools, and the related processes that collectively equate to better products and Return on Investment (ROI). Lead ISD: US Tech Solutions, Inc. for K12.com (03/2012 – 06-2013) Contact: 201-524-9600; 101 Hudson St., Ste. 3715, Jersey City, NJ 07302 Accomplishments: I led an international team comprised of American and Indian citizens. This large project for K12.com entailed the migration of content from an older Content Management System (CMS) and LMS (eCollege) to a newer Curriculum Authoring and Learning Management System (CALMS). Beyond leading my team to success, I did the following: mapped Master Objectives (MOs) to activities and to assessment items, mapped Student Objectives to MOs, assigned activity labels, calculated projected time it takes each student to complete each activity in each lesson, approved MOs for publishing, and executed changes in the CALMS system. My team was also responsible for other activities, such as performing front end and back end Quality Assurance (QA) checks and raising fix-it tickets in a system called “JIRA.” ADL Specialist and ISD: Harkcon, Inc. for United States Coast Guard Aviation Training Center (05/2011 – 03-2012) Contact: 703-507-5625; 1390 Chain Bridge Rd., Ste. 570, McLean, VA 22101 Accomplishments: I provided ADL development support. I developed new, and converted existing course material, to ADL and developed appropriate performance support tools as identified by performance analysis and as established via the curriculum outline development process. These included: e-games, electronic performance support systems, simulations, and other immersive ADL products. I developed appropriate effective learning objects for inclusion in USCG ADL repository, LMS, and other designated USCG hosting environments. As an ISD, I supported the USCG Rescue Swimmer and H-60 Helicopter Pilot training operations. I developed original training materials using Lectora and Microsoft applications. I converted CBT from Authorware to Lectora. I also wrote curriculum outlines (prerequisite learning order of events established during the writing), instructor guides using Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction, student guides, and related material such as a course catalog. Lead ISD: CACI-CMS Information Systems, Inc. for Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (02/2010 – 05-2011) Contact: 703-841-7800; 1100 N. Glebe Rd., Ste. 200, Arlington, VA 22201 Accomplishments: I was the Lead ISD for CACI’s NJROTC Front End Analysis (FEA) and Curriculum Revisions contract. I conducted an initial FEA for the Naval Science 4 (NS4) course and based on my excellent work, the FEA was expanded to analyze the entire four-year curriculum. I revised and realigned the Naval Science 3 (NS3) instructor-led curriculum to reflect the numerous changes in the new textbook. This task included developing additional PowerPoint files containing test questions to integrate their Classroom Performance System (CPS). I assisted with the redevelopment of the NS3 DVD for the revised curriculum resources. Based on the value-added enhancements I made to the curriculum, additional funds were made available to have me develop prototype materials reflecting the recommendations from the FEA for review by the NJROTC Curriculum Committee. In a short three months, I wrote a textbook, a cadet study guide with three full sets of curriculum inserts, and a study guide/reference guide set of materials to support the existing JROTC Distance Learning curriculum. Beyond the NJROTC, in a collaborative effort with SAIC, I developed IMI for the U.S. Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer (SNCO) program (branching scenarios included). I wrote Terminal Learning Objectives (TLOs) and Enabling Learning Objectives (ELOs), designed course outlines, wrote storyboards, interpreted Subject Matter Expert (SME)-provided information, and located additional information for lesson development. I worked closely with SMEs and related professionals (i.e., Graphic Artists, Programmers, and Project Managers) to design and develop curriculum. I am well-versed in writing technical course content at or below a ninth grade reading level. I performed graphic design tasks and assisted graphic artists as needed.
